The Consumer Council of Hong Kong has tested 30 models of infant clothing samples on the market. Among them, 11 models had "snapping" or buttons falling off during the tensile test. Once swallowed accidentally, infants and young children may suffocate.

The samples tested were claimed to be suitable for infants and young children aged 2 years or younger, and each item sold for 22 to 419 yuan. It was found that five strap designs did not meet the requirements of European standards and may cause the risk of neck entanglement.

The amount of free formaldehyde released by another model exceeds the upper limit of mainland standards by more than half, which may irritate the skin of infants and young children, leading to allergic contact dermatitis in severe cases. The other product has a higher pH value, which may cause itchiness and discomfort on the skin. The Consumer Council reminds parents that new clothes should be washed before being worn by infants and young children to reduce chemical substances on the clothes.
